The Knowlesville Art and Nature Centre is looking for an organized, motivated, kid and nature-loving person to lead our summer programs.
As part of our community based sustainable learning centre, the Summer Program Assistant will be working with our education staff to offer regular programs and camps throughout the summer that help engage children, families and adults in outdoor / environmental and artistic / creative programs. This includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities and work duties:
1) Assist the Program Director and Manager with the development and delivery of summer nature day and overnight camps for rural children, families and adults in the area
2) Give tours of the Art & Nature Centre and manage our resource and materials libraries
3) Develop a series of nature inspired educational activities that include literacy, art, environmental education, craft, bushcraft and local history
4) Assist with the care of the Art & Nature Centre facilities, grounds, gardens and trail systems
5) Assist with the production of our newsletters, media sites and parent communications.
This is a Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) funded position, you MUST be a student to apply!
Job Duties
Facilitate nature-based programming
Oversee the health and well-being of all program participants
Communicate professionally with parents, guests and staff
Assist with care of facilities, grounds, gardens and trail systems
Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to, gardening, cleaning and cooking when possible
Assets
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification and drivers license
Familiarity with operating and maintaining garden tools
Communicate professionally with parents, campers and staff
Details:
Seasonal, Full-Time
12 Weeks, 35 hours per week
$16.50- $17.00/hour, depending on experience

Requirements:
Experience with leading/teaching groups of children
Must have the ability to receive and follow direction
An affinity for the natural world- either some education in this field or self-education and experience
A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 12 months
Must be physically able to stand, lift up-to 15 kg, getting up and down from the ground frequently
Must be physically able to assist children as required – (eg. Lifting, getting up and down from the floor frequently)
Be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year (ie. rain paints, bug jacket, etc.)
The ability to provide outstanding customer service to children and parents
Strong communication skills via text, phone, and email
