Trilingual Nature Immersion Program: Nature Inspired Learning in English, French and Wolastoqey
Information for Intensive French Educators and School Administrators:
As a pilot initiative under the guidance of the Centre of Excellence Language Learning, the Knowlesville Art & Nature Centre is bringing a new Trilingual Nature Immersion experiential program to five New Brunswick schools this year. As a leader in outdoor, land-based education, the Knowlesville Art & Nature Centre has designed seasonal outdoor learning activities that will support language learning through body mapping, songs and handwork projects that engage with nature as co-teacher. Your school has been selected to trial our program this year, because you have a champion teacher who has expressed interest in leading language learning outdoors.
Your school’s participation in our pilot initiative, will bring an enthusiastic bilingual educator from our team to your school to co-lead the first activity with your champion teacher. Then we will leave two other activities that have been designed for delivery in French with key words shared in Wolastoqey. The KANC will host monthly video support calls for the participating teachers and provide ongoing support through the school year. The specific activities are designed to engage with seasonal nature phenomena (changes in pigment in leaves in the fall, animal tracks in the winter and nature observation journaling, etc) and at the same time engage learnings in French immersion learning

- Delivery of each module will run for 1.5 hours to 2 hours.
- Modules come with French and English teaching instructions for outdoor activities that your staff can lead themselves with our ongoing support. As this is a pilot initiative, some of the supports will include recordings of songs and videos of our first set of activities led with grade 4/5 and 6 students.
- The program is designed for grade 4/5 intensive French or late immersion classes.
We are able to offer the initial visit to your school on Fridays.
