The Knowlesville Art and Nature Centre is looking for an organized, motivated, kid and nature-loving person to lead our summer programs.

The Nature Campus Intern will gain exposure to best-in-class nature-based programing and organic gardening and permaculture land maintenance practices. Reporting to the KAN Executive Director you will create, deliver, and support our immersive nature-based summer programs. 

The Nature Centre Campus Intern will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of our summer camp programming.   You are also providing leadership to other summer staff (gardeners and camp leaders) Your day-to-day priority will be the successful delivery of the summer programing.   You will primarily work with children of ages 3-13.  You will be responsible for managing a summer staff of 2-6 employees, junior counsellors / teen assistants and volunteers. You will also be responsible to assist with the Knowlesville Art & Nature Centre grounds, trails and gardens. Supporting our landscaping and ecological land restoration team to create both full circle seed gardens and our community native tree and shrub nursery to provide plants for local forest restoration efforts.

We have an Art and Nature School educating 35 kids (aged 3-13) that runs year-round. We are situated in South Knowlesville and have access to acres of meadows and forested land, with an off-grid school facility. 

You will have direct access to veteran land-based educators, organic gardeners and off-grid homesteaders who will offer expertise and mentorship.  If these areas interest you then s rewarding summer of employment and personal growth opportunities awaits. 

Job Duties
Plan and facilitate nature-based programming
Manage summer staff
Care for and connect with each child
Oversee the health and well-being of all program participants
Communicate professionally with parents and staff
Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to administrative, gardening, cleaning and cooking when possible
Assets
Camp leader/teaching experience
We are seeking individuals who are passionate about working with children, have an educational background, and enjoy creating a fun and enriching experience for campers and are ready to take a summer leadership position.

$16-17/hour, 36 hours per week

Requirements:
Experience working with groups of children
Must have the ability to provide leadership to summer staff
An affinity for the natural world – either some education in this field or self-education and experience
  Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 12 months
Must be physically able to assist children as required – (eg. Lifting, getting up and down from the floor frequently)
Must be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year (ie. rain paints, bug jacket, etc.)
The ability to provide outstanding customer service to children and parents
Strong communication skills via text, phone, and email
