Nature Centre Campus Grower

Spend a summer with us as The Knowlesville Art and Nature Centre – create friendships and memories to last a lifetime!

Nature Campus Growers will gain exposure to best-in-class nature-based programing and organic gardening and permaculture land maintenance practices. Reporting to the KAN Executive Director the Nature Centre Grower will Assist with the growing of native & horticultural trees and shrubs from seed, seedlings and cuttings for the establishment of the Acadian Forest Restoration Nursery.   

Assist with planting for forest and land restoration initiatives in the rural municipalities of Hartland & Florenceville-Bristol as well as rurally within the new entity 74 rural region in Carleton County, New Brunswick.

Assist with the site preparation and maintenance of the Community Garden sites and Seed Garden Plots;  Help with the Community Seed Library Projects in collaboration with the participating local libraries;  Assist the teaching of plant care and growing skills to children & youth, families and seniors interested in gardening and orchard care for local food security and forest restoration goals.   Other duties are assigned. 

Job Duties
All tasks related to plant care
All tasks related to nursery care
All tasks related to grounds maintenance
Communicate professionally with parents, campers and staff
Providing care for the Knowlesville Art & Nature Centre grounds, trails and gardens
Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to, gardening, cleaning and cooking when possible
Assets
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification and drivers license
Familiarity with operating and maintaining garden tools

8 Weeks
$15.30/hour, 36 hours per week

Requirements:
Experience with gardening or planting
Must have the ability to receive and follow direction
An affinity for the natural world
A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 12 months
Must be physically able to stand, lift up-to 15 kg, getting up and down from the ground frequently
Must be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year (ie. rain paints, bug jacket, etc.)
