Wild Child Program

Wild Child Program

Wild Child Discovery Fridays

Are you a daycare or school wanting to have a led nature immersion program come to you?  We will send a team of nature
educators to bring a visiting spark to your Friday program.  We use experiential activities, games, and art to help give our programs focus but also enable us to take advantage of teachable moments that arise in nature. We include time for free play in our programs because we believe that free play is essential for healthy child development and that children are learning as they unleash their imaginations in wild spaces.

This program will take place over the course of the school year.  Generally our Wild Child sessions are 1 to 1.5 hours per group.  If you have several classes at your school or child care facility, we can arrange to do back to back sessions with the different groups on the same day.  Call 375-6400 or email to book a day for us to come to you.

A little about Wild Child:

Wild Child gives children the opportunity to engage positively with the natural environments in their communities; through games, art, discussions and various fun activities, children learn about our native plants, animals and trees, and basic ecological concepts including; conservation, habitats, life cycles and more. Children are encouraged to use their imaginations, minds and bodies to explore wild places and discover all the wonders they have to offer. This nature immersion program is designed to strengthen the “outdoors” component of existing child care services, and was developed by Sierra Club in response to the growing body of research showing that children need experiences in the natural world for healthy development, addressing the issue of ‘nature deficit disorder’, where increasingly children are disconnected from nature in their day-to-day lives.
